A great business partnership is one where both companies involved are given the opportunity to strengthen, grow, improve, and learn from one another’s successes. At Flood Marketing, our partnerships consistently provide us with these invaluable opportunities. Including our most recent “Flooducation” series presented by Cody Jerry, of Search Engines MD (SEMD).
SEMD is “a data driven digital marketing agency providing search, social, and content marketing.” While many of the services SEMD offers align with services offered by Flood, we’ve partnered with the brilliant minds of their team to bring even more value to our clients, primarily to those SEO customers.
In a recent staff meeting, Cody Jerry spoke to our team about the numerous tools available for ensuring high ranking search engine results. We learned that there are over 40,000 Google searches performed per second by curious web surfers all over the world. That would mean over 3.5 billion worldwide every single day! The way a company ranks in this vast number of searches, using keywords, by location, or by exact business name, is all determined by the information provided on the company’s webpage.
“What google is looking for is almost-flawless information,” Jerry highlighted.
If any information is incorrect, duplicated on another webpage, or not currently maintained, those listings are forced lower in rankings, if at all, when a search is performed.
One tool, often used to keep data on a webpage clean, is called “aggregator software”. Aggregators collect information found on a multitude of similar websites and convert it to show opportunities for higher rank. Jerry warns that this type of software can be expensive and work predominantly so that a webpage’s citation is listed in online directories. This type of software can cost as much as $400 per month or more, depending on the tool, and does not always fully serve the purpose those businesses intended for it when trying to spur website traffic.
Search Engines MD focuses on going out and finding data manually, beyond the reach of an aggregating software, in order to show unexposed opportunities for higher ranking. They begin by researching and exploring hundreds of websites and dedicate their team to correcting any inaccuracies on business pages.
Jerry and the SEMD team use a tool called an “N.A.P. Hunter” an abridgment of “Name Address and Phone Number Hunter”. This is a Chrome extension tool that speeds up the manual process of SEMD’s research by finding local citations and local ranking positions of client webpages and those of their competitors.
N.A.P. Hunter pulls citations of the business’ location, by city and state, provided by the body and first header of data in a search result. The tool searches for the business name, then shows all Google results where that particular business name appears online. From there, SEMD goes in and corrects the data, where necessary, after 14 different searches. Accurate information therefore results in a higher rank for that business, driving more traffic to that business’ webpage.
Another tip for higher rank Jerry discussed was in regard to company reviews— the more, the merrier! A company with several reviews (60 or more) on their webpage indicates a well-established business, which Google and other search engines characterize positively, and therefore reward by driving that website higher in the rankings of search engine results.
Flood Marketing is proud to have cultivated such a strong, invaluable partnership with Jerry and the experts of the Search Engine MD team. Thanks to all of our Cool Partners, Cool People, and Cool Projects, Flood is growing every single day and in turn, so are our clients!
